Changing your address in Finland
Where to check notification requirements and which everyday contacts to update separately.
Official notification
Follow DVV’s guidance and Posti’s service for your situation. Suomi.fi says you can notify a move at the earliest one month before and must do so within one week after moving. Check current official guidance: permanent moves, temporary stays and moves from abroad differ.
Check these separately
- Electricity, internet and other contracts at both addresses.
- Home insurance and your details with the insurer.
- Your employer, school or daycare if arrangements change.
- Regular deliveries, shops and subscriptions.
- Contact with your landlord and building maintenance.
Notification and mail forwarding are different
Before ordering mail forwarding, check its coverage, duration and cost. Updating your address does not automatically change all your contracts.
