Moving with children and pets
Assign roles to keep everyone safe during loading and essentials close at hand.
Assign a dedicated carer
The person watching a child or pet should not also direct furniture removal. If possible, arrange a quiet place away from movers and open entrance doors.
For children
- Explain the day’s sequence and show which belongings travel with you.
- Pack a separate bag with spare clothes, food, water and familiar items.
- Check school or daycare access and schedules if they change.
- Set up a sleeping place and a safe area in the new home first.
For pets
- Prepare a suitable carrier or safe transport arrangement.
- Keep food, water, familiar bedding and supplies handy.
- Tell helpers about your pet in advance and watch the entrance doors.
- After arrival, let your pet settle in a quiet, contained space.
Discuss health or travel tolerance with a vet. International moves require separate checks of animal travel rules; this guide covers moving day within Finland.
